Call for Art - Political Theme Show at Utrecht!

jasper-johns-flag-range-hood-metallo-arts.jpg  “Flag,”  The Jasper Johns  Hood, by Artist Chris Plummer of Metallo Arts

Don’t let the vote get cooked!  For the month of November, Utrecht Art Supply will be showing politically themed art. This is an open call for a non-juried show.

Our intention is to give local artists the opportunity to display their work where fellow artists can see it and interact.

We are most interested in work that connects the current election to larger political issues or that focuses on larger political themes than the current presidential election, since the show is going up just a few days before and will be up for the whole month of November.

However, no work on this subject will be turned away. Utrecht retains the right to refuse work that is inappropriate or egregiously offensive.

All work must be two-dimensional, no larger than 36″x48″ and brought to the store ready to hang. You must put a label on the back of the piece with your name, contact info, title, media, and price (if you wish to list one). It is unlikely that the work will sell off the wall, as our customers are artists, not collectors. Please keep this in mind.

Work must be brought to Utrecht Art Supply between 10am and 5pm on November 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Artists may submit up to TWO works of art and no more. Work will continue to go up on the wall until the wall is filled, so bring it in sooner than later.

You will be asked to sign a basic artist’s release stating that your work is not the responsibility of Utrecht Art Supply, for liability reasons, since this is not a formal gallery. Please make sure that your piece will hang securely!

Hope to see you on November 1st! Please feel free to e-mail any questions to utrechtgallery@gmail.com, or call the store at

503-417-8024 and ask for the gallery coordinator, Heather Birdsong, or the store manager, Kelly McCarty.

Also, if any of you are interested in scheduling a solo or group show on the wall, Heather Birdsong is taking applications for 2009. There is limited space and everyone cannot be promised a spot. E-mail utrechtgallery@gmail.com for more information.
